SUMMARY:IWBN Side Event at COP-16: Indigenous Women and the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
DESCRIPTION:Partners’ Side Event at COP-16: Indigenous Women and the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF)\nDATE: 24 October\, 2024 \nTIME: 1:20 PM COT. \nVENUE: Pacifico – Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities meeting room. \nThe IIFB will participate of this side event as partner of the organizers IWBN\, IIFB\,    IIN AIWO. \nAbstract \nThe Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) adopted\, by decision 15/4 (2022)\, the historic Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF)\, which acknowledges the important roles and contributions of IPLCs as custodians of biodiversity and as partners in its conservation\, restoration and sustainable use. It also recognizes IPLCs as key actors in reversing biodiversity loss\, which will also contribute to the climate change crisis. This recognition of IPLCs is reflected throughout the KMGBF document\, specifically in Sections C\, Goal C and Targets 1\, 2\, 3\, 4\, 5\, 9\, 13\, 14\, 15\, 19(f)\, 21\, and 22. During this side-event\, IWBN will share how Indigenous women play an important role in the conservation of biological diversity and\, correlatively\, are severely affected by its loss. Therefore\, their visibility and their full and effective participation in the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework and Gender Plan is imperative. Objectives: Highlighting the role and contribution of indigenous women on indigenous knowledge  to the conservation and custumary use of biodiversity on the implementation of the KMGBF. Generate a discussion session to promote a dialogue between indigenous women and representative of governments\, academia and other sectors on the contribution of indigenous women and traditional knowledge to biodiversity. \n
