The Framework’s implementation must ensure that the rights\, knowledge\, including traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity\, innovations\, worldviews\, values\, and practices of indigenous peoples and local communities are respected\, documented\, and preserved with their free\, prior\, and informed consent\, including through their full and effective participation in decision-making. This is to be done in accordance with relevant national legislation and international instruments\, including the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and human rights law. Territory is the integral connection with Mother Nature from which Indigenous Peoples build and weave their cultural identities\, their knowledge\, and wisdoms. By combining substantial investments in specific locations with support to magnify local results through global capacity building\, policy influence and demonstration of large-scale impacts\, ICI will catalyze the transformational changes needed to secure and enhance support for the contributions of IPLCs to biodiversity and other global environmental benefits (GEBs).
