SUMMARY:WEBINAR SERIES: TARGET 3 IMPLEMENTATION WITH A FOCUS ON INDIGENOUS PEOPLES AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES
DESCRIPTION:Webinar Series on Target 3 Implementation with a focus on Indigenous Peoples and local communities\n \nDATE: Thursday 19Th September 2024 \nTIME: 08:00 – 10:00 AM Montreal Time. \nMODALITY: ZOOM (registration required) \nLANGUAGE: English and Spanish. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nAbstract: \nThe Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) recognizes the important roles of Indigenous Peoples and local communities as custodians of biodiversity and partners in its conservation\, restoration\, and sustainable use. The Framework’s implementation must ensure that the rights\, knowledge\, including traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity\, innovations\, worldviews\, values\, and practices of indigenous peoples and local communities are respected\, documented\, and preserved with their free\, prior\, and informed consent\, including through their full and effective participation in decision-making. This is to be done in accordance with relevant national legislation and international instruments\, including the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and human rights law. Acknowledging their multi-aspect roles\, respecting their rights\, and recognizing Indigenous and Traditional Territories are paramount to implementing the KMGBF Target 3. \nAs part of its mandate to support its members in achieving Target 3\, and as part of the work that the coalition has been doing since 2021 with the Indigenous Peoples and local communities task force with the support of the International Indigenous Forum\,  the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People (HAC for N&P) is organizing a technical webinar to provide a better understanding of that last segment of the target 3 “recognizing and respecting the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities\, including over their traditional territories” and guidance on how to integrate these aspects into countries’ 30×30 efforts and update their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). \nThe first part of the webinar will present the perspectives of some organizations working on the topic.  The second part will be dedicated to country cases and community-based experiences. \n  \nAgenda\, Presentations and Resources: Available soon
