The International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB) invites Indigenous Peoples and local communities to participate in two important surveys related to Indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) and Community-Based Monitoring and Information Systems (CBMIS). Your contributions are important in ensuring our voices, knowledge systems and community-based initiatives are meaningfully reflected in global biodiversity assessments.
The IIFB is committed to advancing the full and effective participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in biodiversity-related processes. These surveys directly support IIFB’s goals by gathering knowledge that highlights the contributions of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in monitoring biodiversity and implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The data collected will inform the ongoing IPBES Monitoring Assessment, which plays a critical role in influencing biodiversity policy at national and global levels.
This is a timely opportunity to contribute to policy-shaping discussions. We kindly request that you complete the surveys by 15 July 2025 in alignment with IPBES timelines.

- National Monitoring Survey
This survey collects information on national and sub-national biodiversity monitoring systems, particularly concerning Targets 22, 23, and Section C of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Key questions on ILK and CBMIS are located in questions 18–24. The form is easily translatable into various languages.
