News | 2 April.- The International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB) launched the Capacity Building Workshop on Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) and Digital Sequence Information (DSI), in advance of the discussions that will take place at the Sixteenth Conference of the Parties (COP16), scheduled for October 2024.
The online workshop is a three-day training programme, from 2 April to 4 April, 2024, that aims to discuss and develop inputs and recommendations for the IIFB Working Group (GW) on DSI.
Over 50 members of the IIFB attended the introductory session today, in which participants had a review of the concepts associated to DSI, policy options to regulate DSI and related topics that will be discussed at the COP 16. Preston Hardison, on behalf of the IIFB, and Taukondjo Sem Shikongo, on behalf of the Secretariat of the Convention of Biological Diversity, guided the session.
After the final Q&A, IIFB Co-chair Ramiro Batzin lead the closing remarks and thanked speakers and participants.

- Presentation on GMBSM funding sources, by Pierre du Plessis and Paul Oldham followed by Q&A;
- Presentation on Nagoya Protocol, Genetic Resources s and IPR, by Rodrigo de la Cruz followed by Q&A;
- Dialogue.
3th Session (4 April): What is the IIFB position?
- Presentation on benefit sharing, biocultural labels, and willingness to pay, by Katie-Lee Riddle, Aysegul Sirakaya and John Locke;
- Presentation on the GMBSM;
- Presentation on what is the IIFB position.
