Indigenous women from Latin America and the Caribbean – Abya Yala gathered in Panama City at the Regional Meeting of Indigenous Women in preparation for the Sixteenth Conference of the Parties (COP 16) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The encounter, organized by the Indigenous Women Network on Biodiversity from Latin America and the Caribbea (RMIB-Lac), took place from 28 to 29 September, 2024.
The objective of this meeting was to consolidate, strengthen and encourage the development of capacities, skills and competencies in indigenous women and youth from Latin America and the Caribbean, so that they can contribute and influence with their perspective and their rights in the negotiations of the COP 16 to be held in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1, 2024.
The meeting also sought to strengthen the implementation and revisions of the National Biodiversity Strategies in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at the national level, ensuring respect for the rights and efforts of Indigenous Peoples to conserve biodiversity.
Indigenous women from 12 countries of Abya Yala, focal points of the RMIB-LAC and indigenous women leaders participated.
