IIFB Capacity Building Programme towards the UN Biodiversity Conference. Session I: General issues related to COP-16

This workshop will cover key aspects of the conference, including an introduction to the COP 16, how the work is organized, how to draft and present declarations, as well as where to find essential documents. It is designed to equip participants with a solid understanding of the conference structure and the working groups.

Abstract:

The International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB) launches the Training workshop towards the UN Biodiversity Conference, a series of webinar sessions to strengthen capacities of Indigenous Peoples and local communities participating of the Sixteen Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-16), which will take place in Cali, Colombia, from 21 October to 1 November 2024.

During 5 sessions, IIFB experts will address not only essential concepts but also practical tools for a successful participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Among other topics, speakers will approach the structure of the COP, the basics of the negotiation process, key topics of the traditional knowledge agenda for COP-16, how to analyze a document, how to prepare statements and texts to be negotiated and how to organize events within the COP.
