SUMMARY:
The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Network of the Centres of Distinction on Indigenous and Local Knowledge are planning a webinar series discuss the findings of the two recently completed IPBES assessments related to Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
This second webinar will explore the key messages relating to Indigenous Peoples and local communities in the IPBES Assessment Report on the Interlinkages among Biodiversity, Water, Food and Health (the Nexus Assessment), which was completed in 2024.
The assessment followed a rigorous approach to working with Indigenous and local
knowledge (ILK), including dialogue workshops and contributions from authors (including Indigenous authors) across a range of disciplines and knowledge systems.
The assessment explores the ways in which Indigenous Peoples and local communities conceptualize the nexus and interlinkages within nature, as well as the important role of their knowledge and actions in understanding, managing and governing these interlinkages.
Key messages from the assessment have been approved by the 147 member countries of IPBES. In this webinar, assessment authors and Indigenous Peoples and local communities will reflect on the findings of the assessment, ways forward and next steps.
