Abstract:
The International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity, together with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia and the Mesa Permanente de Concertación (MPC) de Pueblos Indígenas de Colombia, organize an open webinar session to present the results of the TRɄA World Summit on Traditional Knowledge related to Biodiversity.
This high level event gathered more than 150 leaders of Indigenous Peoples and local communities from 7 socio-cultural regions and government representatives from 26 to 29 August, 2024, in Bogota, Colombia, for an informal dialogue in preparation to COP16.
As a result of the summit, a series of recommendations to the parties of the Conference of the Parties were developed, to be considered at COP16. These recommendations are linked to the Contributions to item 14 and the development of a new programe of work and institutional arrangements on Article 8(j) and related provisions of the Convention.
The objective of the TRɄA World Summit was to increase visibility of traditional knowledge related to biodiversity and to highlight Indigenous Peoples and local communities’ contributions to nature conservation and climate action, to achieve the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and the Paris Agreement.
TRɄA means territory for the Emberá. Territory is the integral connection with Mother Nature from which Indigenous Peoples build and weave their cultural identities, their knowledge, and wisdoms. In this summit, all voices united as one, for the TRɄA, towards COP 16.
