SUMMARY:
The International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity organized this webinar series together with the Oregon State University and the Indigenous Women Biodiversity Network (IWBN). The sessions addressed indigenous knowledge in evaluating effectiveness of Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) and Other effective conserved areas in the ocean.
Each sessions will address the following topics:
- 1ST WEBINAR (Today): To understand and analyze the basic concepts related to OECMs and the draft tool to assess its effectiveness and enabling conditions (direct and indirect), and the impacts of following activities in OECMs: Recreation including tourism, Renewable energy, and Mining, mineral, oil and/or gas prospecting or exploitation.
- 2ND WEBINAR (Dec 12): To understand and analyze the impacts of following activities in OECMs: Aquaculture/mariculture, Anchoring, Artificial structures, Dredging/dumping/pollution, and Shipping.
- 3RD WEBINAR (Dec 18): To understand and analyze the impacts of following activities in OECMs: Stewardship and conservation activities, Restoration, Security/military activities.
- 4TH WEBINAR (Dec 19): To understand and analyze the impacts of following activities in OECMs: Fishing, Non-extractive cultural activities, Customary use.
