Guidelines on Indigenous and Traditional Territories (ITTs) in the context of biodiversity conservation, sustainable use and restoration

These Guidelines provide a comprehensive framework for recognizing and supporting the vital role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and ecosystem restoration within their Indigenous and Traditional Territories (ITTs). Rooted in international human rights instruments and aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the Guidelines promote respect for traditional knowledge, governance systems, and culturally appropriate restoration practices.

They outline principles and strategic actions that advocate for secure land tenure, free prior and informed consent, and full participation of Indigenous Peoples in biodiversity decision-making, ensuring their rights and contributions are upheld and integrated into national and global conservation efforts.
