About IIFB
Empowering Indigenous Peoples and local communities
We are Indigenous Peoples and local communities from 7 regions organized around the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to coordinate indigenous strategies on biodiversity. We are recognized as the main indigenous body advising the Conference of the Parties (COP) on the implementation of Article 8(j) and related provisions of the CBD.
We work together towards:
Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity at all levels
Recognition of traditional knowledge associated to biodiversity and its Intergenerational transmission
Fair and equitable sharing of benefits derived from the use of traditional knowledge
Customary sustainable use of biodiversity
Initiatives
We lead projects with positive impact on Indigenous Peoples and local communities lands and traditional territories.
Podong Indigenous Peoples Initiative
Co-led and co-designed by the IIIFB, IUCN and IUCN’s IPO to support Indigenous contributions to biodiversity conservation and climate solutions.
Forest & Communities Initiative
A collaborative work dedicated to restore the lands Indigenous women from West Pokot Kenya.
