About IIFB

Empowering Indigenous Peoples and local communities

We are Indigenous Peoples and local communities from 7 regions organized around the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to coordinate indigenous strategies on biodiversity. We are recognized as the main indigenous body advising the Conference of the Parties (COP) on the implementation of Article 8(j) and related provisions of the CBD.

We work together towards:

Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity at all levels

Recognition of traditional knowledge associated to biodiversity and its Intergenerational transmission

Fair and equitable sharing of benefits derived from the use of traditional knowledge

Customary sustainable use of biodiversity

Interventions at the international level
