The International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity is organizing a series of Regional Preparatory Meetings towards the Sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), to be held in July.
These virtual meetings seek to kick off dialogues on the priority topics for Indigenous Peoples and local communities that will be addressed during COP16. In this line, the preparatory meetings will be a useful space to get informed and up to date with the latest discussions on the New Program of Work on Article 8(j) and institutional arrangements, the sharing of benefits derived from the use of traditional knowledge related to genetic resources and digital sequence information, and the monitoring framework of the Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), among other topics.
The first of the Regional Preparatory Meetings will be for the African Region, which will be conducted on the 11th and 12th July, 2024. This African Region Preparatory Meeting is being co-organized with the Indigenous Women Biodiversity Network (IWBN) and the Indigenous Information Network (IIN), with the support of the GIZ Initiative.
In the upcoming days, the dates for the Preparatory Meetings of Asia, Artic, Eastern & Central Europe, Latin America & the Caribbean, North America and the Pacific will be confirmed.
